68th Congress of the Association of Polish Surgeons

Kraków is a cradle of academic surgery and a place where many outstanding surgeons work. This year the city will host the 68th Congress of the Association of Polish Surgeons organized jointly with the 21st Meeting of European Society of Surgery, as well as the 2nd European Meeting of Residents and PhD in Surgery.

History of Polish surgery dates back to a three centuries ago, when in 1779 Professor Rafał Józef Czerwiakowski established the Chair of General Surgery at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. It was the first such establishment in the north of Europe. Contemporary surgery deals with a huge array of diseases. Paradoxically, the demand for surgical treatment is coupled with a drop in the professionally active surgeons and a deepening generation gap.

Facing the need to take action to improve the situation soon, the aim of the conference will be to create opportunities for young surgeons for scientific exchanges with specialists from other European countries. The Congress Centre will be the venue for debates of outstanding clinicians and practitioners. The organizers expect 2500 surgeons from Poland and abroad to participate in the congress, including many invited guests form leading academic centres.
