About religious tourism on St Nicholas’ Day
On 6 December, the ICE Kraków Congress Centre will host the conference “Religious tourism in the tourist product of Krakow”. The meeting is primarily intended for experts of the tourism industry.
“The year 2016, because of World Youth Day, is unique for the development of religious tourism in Krakow”, said Katarzyna Gądek, the deputy director of the Department of Promotion and Tourism of Krakow's City Hall. “Our city, popular with tourists for years thanks to the Divine Mercy Sanctuary and the figure of St John Paul II has been given an image-building opportunity, thanks to which we will be among the world's most famous religious destinations, such as Fatima, Lourdes or Santiago de Compostela”.
The assessment of the effects of WYD for tourism will be one of the most important topics of the conference: results of pilgrim surveys and an initial report on the impact of WYD on the city's economy will be presented. The panel discussion “WYD in Krakow. A short-term phenomenon or a lasting effect?” will focus on the chances to use the “WYD effect. An interesting counterpoint to the experts’ discussion should be the presentations by students of the John Paul II Papal University, who experience the joyful atmosphere of July in the very centre of events.
There are still places available at the conference, you can register until 1 December 2016 at firstname.lastname@example.org (an application form must be sent in).
