The fifth edition of the Back to the Garden programme is ongoing – on the 2nd and 3rd of December, the pupils of the Specialised Educational Care Facility “Parkowa” will get a new room décor. How is that possible? That’s simple – for two days, the representatives of the meetings industry (hoteliers, conference organisation companies and representatives of conference facilities) from Krakow will invest their time selflessly helping others. They will leave their desks and become painters and builders. As they say, “the smiles on the kids’ faces will be the rest reward”! The campaign is supported by the Krakow Festival Office – the operator of ICE Kraków Congress Centre.

“The goal of the ‘Back to the Garden’ campaign is to support family children’s homes through involving local communities connected with the meeting industry. We put away our computers and through our own work, change gardens and homes into friendly places for the pupils,” said Krzysztof Celuch, director of PCB POT.

The organiser, Poland Convention Bureau of the Polish Tourist Organisation invited other MICE industry organisations to join the project – the Krakow Convention Bureau, DMC Poland, Masters Catering, Meeting Professionals International, Radisson Blu Kraków as well the Krakow Festival Office and ICE Kraków.

“This year, we are once again honoured to support the ‘Back to the Garden’ campaign. We have organised an exclusive tour of the Congress Centre for the children – along with our employees, they will be able to go into places that guests have no access to on a daily basis. Another attraction were cooking workshops, under the supervision of Bartek Płócienniak, one of the participants of Top Chef, which were prepared by the ICE Kraków caterers – the Masters Catering company. The grand finale of the visit was a film screening in the Theatre Hall”, said Izabela Helbin, Director of the Krakow Festival Office. “I hope that the children enjoyed the time they spent with us. Who knows, maybe we’ll meet at ICE Kraków again in a few years, maybe at student internships in our “TACTICS? PRACTICE!” programme? Our doors are always open to them”, Director Helbin added.

Under the watchful eye of Studio Wnętrz Kinga Szczepanik, the rooms of the Specialised Educational Care Facility “Parkowa” in Podgórze are being furnished and painted. The facility provides care and education for children and youth (from 10 years of age), who present educational difficulties connected with a crisis of puberty, family conflicts, behaviour disorders and other mental disorders of a significant level. In addition, thanks to the support of the campaign partners, we will be able to organise attractions for the children: a tour of the backstage of ICE Kraków, a film screening and a workshop during which they will build Krakow buildings out of blocks and cooking workshops in the Conference Hall Complex of the Congress Centre.

This year’s project is a continuation of the work begun during the MPE EMEC 2015 conference in Krakow, during which participants of the event, along with the sponsor – DMC Poland, assembled furniture at ICE Kraków for the facility.
