Business at the foot of Wawel Hill

What connects prime ministers, ministers, businessmen, UEFA members, miracle-working doctors and IT rockstars? The answer is simple and can be found right in the centre of Krakow, at the foot of the Wawel Hill – it is ICE Kraków!

35 congresses and 37 other events, including conferences, trade shows and corporate events. “40% of the projects carried out in 2016 were business events”, said Izabela Helbin, director of the Krakow Festival Office, operator of the venue. “For us, the private sector is a very important partner. Responsible businessmen and entrepreneurs are crucial for the development of ICE Kraków, the industry and the city itself. Therefore, we discuss with them, for example as part of the Kraków Network project”, she added.

The initiative discussed by Director Helbin comprises a series of meetings, the goal of which is to build a strong and cohesive business group in the meetings industry, with participants representing hotels, restaurants, carriers, as well as employees of public institutions, such as the Krakow Convention Bureau or the ICE Kraków Congress Centre. The Krakow Festival Office – operator of the venue –initiated this project back in March 2015. To date, 8 meetings have taken place, and the participants are already working in groups as Congress Ambassadors, whose goal is to bring the academic events to the city and the region, as well as in other groups, which are concerned with Public Relations, ecology, as well as the newest trends and the development of the hospitality industry. It is also worth mentioning that thanks to activities like this, the Polish Tourist Organization and the Conferences and Congresses in Poland Association decided to organise the Polish Congress Ambassadors Gala at the ICE Kraków. On the 14th of September 2017, awards will be presented to scientists who bring new congresses and conferences to Poland.

The Krakow Festival Office brings in not only its organisational experience as an operator of an award-winning, state-of-the-art venue, but also the best practices of all partners, with whom it collaborates on event organisation. 2016 meant useful feedback from dozens of various entities who organised conferences, congresses, trade shows and corporate events at the ICE Kraków throughout the year. Also, the new initiative – an agreement between three Polish venues – ICE Kraków, the Lublin Conference Centre and the Copernicus Conference Centre in Warsaw – will help bring in new events of such kind.

In the two years since its operations started, ICE Kraków has made a name for itself in the industry, and its staff was recognised many times by organisers, as proven by our numerous testimonials. According to the experts, this modern venue is considered to be one of the leaders in the meetings industry, able to successfully compete with other congress centres in Europe. This is partially due to the organisation of events such as drawing the groups for the final tournament of the 2017 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, CYBERSEC – European Cybersecurity Forum, European Congress of Local Governments, as well as conferences, such as the IT-related DEVOXX, the economic Impact’16 or the medical – New Frontiers in Interventional Cardiology. that the reputation of the venue improves, and the staff of ICE Kraków can be certain that they are ready for the challenges brought by the upcoming year.

The goals for 2017 are ambitious. First of all, we have to carry out all the projects scheduled for this year, while constantly raising a bar that is already quite high. What is also important is the integration of the representatives of the meetings industry as part of the Krakow Network initiative, as well as further development of modern communication with the audience, which is what differentiates the ICE Kraków Congress Centre from similar venues in Poland.

The competencies of the staff working at the venue will be verified by our guests – last year we hosted almost 250000 people – as well as partners, who are extremely demanding. It is also worth mentioning that it is due to the construction of the ICE Kraków Congress Centre that some events, such as the UNESCO World Heritage Committee Session, European Lotteries Congress or a conference of transplant nurses will take place in Krakow. The previous edition took place in the Spanish city of Valencia. The organisation of the upcoming edition in Krakow speaks more loudly to the renown of the venue than the award for the Best Congress Centre in New Europe 2016 – the Meeting Star Award, and attests to the fact that ICE Kraków is already an important player in the meetings industry in Europe. After all, the organisers of 177 events for almost 250 000 participants cannot be wrong.
