Extraordinary Jubilee Gala of Krystyna Prońko
Excellent technique, high musical culture and unusual original voice. Krystyna Prońko, one of the most outstanding Polish female singers, will soon perform in Krakow during the jubilee gala on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of her professional debut. The artist will perform in the Auditorium Hall of the ICE Kraków Congress Centre on the 25th of October (Sunday) at 8 p.m. The Krakow Festival Office co-organises the event.
“I am proud that such an eminent artist will perform in the ICE Kraków Congress Centre,” says Izabela Helbin, the Director of the Krakow Festival. “Krystyna Prońko is an extremely charismatic vocalist that stands out on the Polish music scene; thanks to perfectly selected compositions and necessary stage knowledge, her performances are always a source of unforgettable experiences.”
The artist will present a different emotional interpretation of her songs, and the repertoire will include songs from various periods of her entire career. During the almost 2-hour performance, we will hear Prońko’s most popular songs, such as Jesteś lekiem na całe zło, Deszcz w Cisnej, Małe tęsknoty, Jutro zaczyna się tu sezon, Modlitwa, Niech moje serce kołysze ciebie do snu, Papierowe Ptaki and a waltz from the film Halo Szpicbródka. The singer will be accompanied by the Wiesław Wilczkiewicz Ensemble from Krakow.
Being active on the Polish music stage for 45 years, Krystyna Prońko does not reduce her repertoire to one genre. She graduated from the Faculty of Jazz and Popular Music and the Academy of Music in Katowice; she began her vocal career in the family band Refleks, in which she performed together with brothers: Piotr (saxophone) and Wojtek (bass guitar). She has often won top awards at the Opole Festival. She received her first award in 1973 for her interpretations of songs Po co ci to chłopcze and Umarłe krajobrazy. She repeated this success two years later, winning an award for the song Niech moje serce kołysze ciebie do snu. This interpretation became also the song of the year in the annual poll of the Non Stop magazine.
The artist had an excellent introduction to the Polish show business thanks to having been invited to sing background vocals for Czesław Niemen in the 1970s. Krystyna Prońko sang background vocals also for Skaldowie and Czerwone Gitary, mainly during foreign tours in the former Soviet Union. Apart from that, the artist played the main role in the rock opera 3400 lat po Ikarze and the role of Kobieta z Osiedla [Woman from a Housing Estate] in the oratorio Kolęda Nocka and participated in Polish editions of the Good News Festival in 1990 and 1991.
