Forefathers’ Eve – a concert version by Pianohooligan

A concert by composer and jazz pianist Piotr “Pianohooligan” Orzechowski with the High Definition quartet, accompanied by performers of electronic music. The Dziady (Forefathers’ Eve) project is an unprecedented meeting of two musical worlds – the sound of improvised music and contemporary electronic music. As part of the project, the renowned pianist and composer Piotr “Pianohooligan” Orzechowski invites the collaboration of such prominent artists of the broad ambient genre as William Basinski, Christian Fennesz, Robert Rich and Krzysztof Knittel, who along with the jazz High Definition Quartet will attempt a musical interpretation of the Old Slavic rite of the Forefathers’ Eve, described in the second part of Adam Mickiewicz's timeless drama of the same title.

A concert by composer and jazz pianist Piotr “Pianohooligan” Orzehowski with the High Definition quartet, accompanied by performers of electronic music.

The plot of the source text will be presented in sound, through the juxtaposition of opposing spheres: human (improvisation) and spiritual (electronic sets). The jazz quartet will play the roles of the participants of the rite, and each of the invited artists will portray one of the spirits from the afterlife. The Dziady project by Piotr Orzechowski is not only a conversation between two worlds, but also an attempt to portray through music the emotional states of their representatives, as well as the moral teachings preached by the arrivals from the afterlife.
