- Over the last years Krakow has changed beyond recognition. Unusual cultural projects appeal to our imagination. Krakow residents use modern, low-floor trams which run long new and modernized rails. The problems with access to good quality drinking water and well- functioning sewage system have disappeared. Krakow’s landscape has been adorned with unique architecture projects, such as the Wyspiański Pavilion, the Krakow Arena or the ICE Krakow Congress Centre, to mention but a few – said the Mayor of Krakow Jacek Majchrowski at the opening ceremony of the exhibition Krakow – the Ambitious City. Municipal investment projects 2003-2014.
The exhibition consists of four sections: municipal transport; road infrastructure; environment; sports and cultural projects. In total, can see 25 projects at the exhibition – from the modernization of bus and tram fleet, through the reconstruction of Mogilskie, Grzegórzeckie and Ofiar Katynia roundabouts, building development and municipal utilities.
Thanks to 20 film interviews at the exhibition, visitors would be able to have look at the city’s everyday life from the point of view of a traffic engineer, a tram driver, people dealing with waste treatment or testing drinking water and air quality. Engineers and an architect will talk about challenges they met when designing and building Krakow’s flagship cultural and sports facilities – the ICE Kraków Congress Centre and the Krakow Arena.
Visitors have the opportunity to check their knowledge about contemporary municipal engineering in Krakow at a multimedia quiz. The youngest visitors have their own educational corner where they can play little engineers, for instance building a road tunnel or a flyover.
