International Biennale of Architecture to be held on 12-13 October in the ICE Kraków Congress Centre
”Backyard – Field of Inspiration” is the theme of this year’s edition of the International Biennale of Architecture to be held on 12-13 October in the ICE Kraków Congress Centre. Architects from all over the world will talk about how to moderate and plan the space so as it is not only usable but also to get the local communities involved.
MBA Krakow 2017 is aimed to attract attention to the issue that is sometimes neglected, but strongly influences the everyday life of city residents. Backyards located among blocks of flats or at rear of townhouses are only usable spacer (usually a provisional car park with waste bins), with haphazardly planned space and neglected greenery which does not respond to the needs of the community life. Architects from all over the world whom we will host in Krakow in the second week of October will talk about how to plan a functional space, for the residents’ enjoyment and help to integrate the local communities. Three competitions accompany this year’s International Biennale of Architecture Krakow 2017, including an architectural-urban planning conceptual competition, as well as a seminar and multimedia competitions. The international Jury will evaluate the works presented at the competitions. The Jury membership consists of the greats of the world of architecture, including the author of the concept of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews Reiner Mahlamäki, Viviana Muscettola from Zaha Hadid Architects and Andor Wesselényi-Garay. A number of exhibitions on the history of the city’s architecture and the newest trends will be made available to the public throughout the Biennial: e.g. ”Domesticated Modernism. Contemporary Chinese Architecture” under Curators Wang Lu and Krzysztof Ingarden at the Manggha Museum of Japanese Art and Technology. The Historical Museum of the City of Krakow will host the exhibition “Polish Architecture Today” for a month.
