Krzysztof Penderecki at the ICE Krakow construction site

Krzysztof Penderecki, one of the best-known and most distinguished Polish composers of contemporary music visited the construction site of the ICE Krakow Congress Centre by the Grunwaldzkie Roundabout on Tuesday, the 7th of January 2014.

The visit was organised by architects Krzysztof Ingarden and Jacek Ewý, who are responsible for the building’s design alongside the Arata Isozaki & Associates studio.

Accepting the invitation, the composer admitted that he was also driven by ordinary professional curiosity. Familiar with the best concert halls of the world, he wanted to see at what stage the construction of the largest and most modern facility of this type in Malpolska currently was.

This project cannot be treated like a stadium, it is a very complex and complicated structure. Each of the three halls is different. The main one is a concert hall, and the remaining two are to fulfil artistic and theatre and conference and congress related functions” stressed Jacek Ewý, co-author of the design.
