ŚLEPCY [THE BLIND] of KTO Theatre in ICE Kraków
According to The Guardian, the performance is ‘a tearful experience that turns The Blind into a visually astonishing show that is as wonderful as you can imagine it.’ The stage production can be seen in ICE Kraków on the 15th of April 2015.
The script for the huge performance Ślepcy [The Blind] was inspired by the novel Blindness by José Saramago - a Portuguese winner of the Nobel Prize. The novel tells a story of an epidemic of white blindness. It affects people engaged in everyday matters without warning. It does not spare anyone – children, old people, women or men. On the basis of Blindness, a film directed by Fernando Meirelles was also made. The cast included star such as Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, or Dany Glover.
For the first time, Ślepcy directed by Jerzy Zoń was presented on the Main Square in Krakow on the 18th of June 2010. After five years, on the 15th of April 2015 at 8.00 p.m., this unusual stage production will be shown in the ICE Kraków Congress Centre. This will be the only opportunity to see this performance.
Ślepcy has been staged at festivals in many different parts of the world – among others, in Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Spain, Colombia, Germany, Russia, Romania, Slovakia, Ukraine and many Polish cities.
Joyce McMillan, who reviewed the production for The Scotsman, writes that it is a ‘powerful and beautifully acted visual drama about a society’s instinctive response to a crisis that kills no-one, but changes everything, and reveals many disturbing truths.’
